FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has a message for political supporters who like to carry their fasting and prayers for politicians enter radio, television and social media. ๐ป๐บ๐ฑ
According to Wike, if you decide to fast and pray for your favourite politician, God bless you o ๐๐ฝ, nobody dey stop you. But must you come online come announce am? ๐
He said some supporters have turned their personal prayers and fasting into public political announcements, and he believes the two things should be kept separate.
In simple terms, Wike’s message be like:
“If you wan pray, pray. If you wan fast, fast. But no need to hold press conference because you dey pray for politician.” ๐๐
And honestly, na here the matter come get small Igbo uncle flavour:
“My brother, pray quietly. Chineke sees you already. You no need microphone.” ๐๐๐ฝ
Wike reportedly questioned the need for people to publicly announce their religious devotion whenever they are supporting a political figure.
For him, supporting a politician is one thing, while turning personal worship into a public political activity is another thing entirely.
So if person dey fast for your candidate from morning till evening, make the person dey drink water after sunset in peace. ๐ญ๐ No need for
Omo, Wike say make una calm down small. ๐๐
His argument is that people are free to pray for whoever they want, but such personal acts of worship don't necessarily have to become public political announcements.
And with Nigerian politics becoming more active on social media, radio and television, supporters now have plenty platforms to display their loyalty to politicians.
But Wike appears to be drawing a line between political support and personal religious practice.
You fit support your person.
You fit pray for your person.
You fit even fast for your person. ๐๐ฝ
But according to Wike, you no need turn the whole thing into public announcement every time. ๐
At the end of the day, whether prayer is announced publicly or kept private remains a matter of personal choice. But Wike's message to political supporters is clear: politics is politics, prayer is prayer — know where to draw the line.
๐๐๐ฝ Chai! Nigerian politics no dey ever boring.
